MOVING SWIMMING POOL FLOOR FAQ's
WHAT ARE MOVING POOL FLOORS?
The moving pool floors, also called movable floors or lifting pool floors, are platforms that make it possible to adjust pool depth as needed. They harness hydraulic technology to make both indoor and outdoor pools deeper or shallower, depending on use. Movable floors are used to turn pools into multipurpose spaces: aquatic facilities can be turned into a deck, a stage, or a recreational area (among many other possible activities) when the platform is raised.
Moving floors maximize the performance of any installation. Since movable floor platforms can be fully integrated, facilities can create spaces with zero impact on aesthetics: the pool disappears when the platform is raised, transforming it seamlessly and safely from one purpose to another. The floors can also transition to any depth that suits your needs. The beauty of a movable pool floor is that it can easily transform a facility from a 2-meter deep pool for competitive swimmers to a pool for divers or water polo players, even a shallow children’s pool.
WHO NEEDS MOVABLE POOL FLOORS?
Anyone who wants to maximise the space in their home, wants a secure pool that is impossible to access by children or pets when closed, wants to transform the pool area for social occasions, wants the pool covered by a hardcover to have space for events or just someone who wants to save energy, water and the environment.
WHAT KIND OF MOVING POOL FLOORS DO YOU INSTALL?
We work with a variety of movable floor designs, from the basic rolling decks that just roll on and off your pool to the sophisticated freeform pool moving floors that are operated via spiral actuators, we do them all. The selection of the design and technology depends on a variety of factors, the more prominent ones are listed below:
-
For existing outdoor pools that have enough space around them (as much as the pool area itself), we use the Rolling Pool Decks.
-
For existing outdoor or indoor pools that do not have enough space next to them but have a minimum depth of 1.50m, we use the Suspended Movable Pool Floors.
-
For brand-new outdoor or indoor pools where the floor can be incorporated into the pool design, we install Floating Pool Floors.
-
For outdoor pools where a high load-bearing capacity is needed, for example for parking a car, we use the Scissor Lift Moving Floors.
-
For existing pools that have a flat pool bottom but the depth is less than 1.80m, we prefer to use the Push Chain Lifting Pool Floors.
-
For large freeform pools with multiple sections and depths, we recommend the top-of-the-range Helical Lift Moving Pool Floors.
DO YOU ONLY DO THE MOVING POOL FLOORS OR DO YOU ALSO BUILD THE POOLS?
We are swimming pool designers by qualification, so if it is a brand new pool we will design the pool and movable floor as a package, but if you are working with a swimming pool contractor we will be happy to work alongside and do just what is needed from us. If the site is in or around London, we can also undertake the entire design, supply, and installation of the swimming pool equipment package including the heating & ventilation for the indoor swimming pools. We do not undertake the builders work associated with the pool as it's usually the main contractor who does that, but our installation partners AQUA SPAZIO can assist you in the pool build, waterproofing and finishing.
WHAT FINISH CAN I HAVE ON MY MOVING POOL FLOOR?
The answer is fairly straightforward, for the Rolling Pool Decks and the Suspended Pool Floors, the only finish available is marine-grade timber or composite decking. On the floating floors that are our most popular design for brand new pools, you can have composite deck included within the price, or for the same price, we can supply and install the floor with stainless steel trays on top ready to be tiled by others using tiles no more than 10mm thick. On the other three types of floors, you can have pretty much whatever you want, decking, tiles, pavings, or even cobblestones if you fancy....!
HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN THE MOVING FLOOR TAKE?
The load capacity of Rolling Decks and Suspended Floors is 100kg/sqm so for an 8m X 4m pool size it will be over 3 metric tonnes or about 30 good-feeling people standing on top. For Floating Floors, when installed with locking pins, it can be up to 200kg/sqm or double of Suspended Floors. For the other three systems, it can be up to half a tonne per square meter, so immense.
HOW LONG FROM POOL TO DANCE FLOOR?
No more than a few minutes:
-
About 3 minutes for the Rolling Decks
-
Less than 5 minutes for Movable Floors up to 1.80m maximum depth of the pool
-
Up to 10 minutes for deeper pools
